Rhine in Flames in the Springtime

For the first time, the River Cruise Line offers an illuminating tour that cruises through both Holland and the romantic Rhine Valley. On leaving the sparkling city of Amsterdam, we pass traditional Dutch towns and villages set in the flat landscape of the Ijsselmeer tributaries, to join the mighty Rhine. Crossing the border into Germany, our vista alters to reveal a plunging river valley cutting through steep vine-clad slopes. Glistening Rhineland towns and villages, warmed by the strengthening rays of the sun, beckon us to stop; as do the surrounding mountains and tributary river valleys that nurture the tongue-tingling light wines for which this region is so famous. Each year celebratory night-time events, featuring displays of fire and light upon the Rhine’s waters, are staged in acknowledgement of the abundant grape harvests. As we spend an evening moored by the city of Bonn, we shall witness the first of this year’s Rhine in Flames event when the river’s waters shall reflect the fire and light of the ‘Night of Bengal Fire’.
