Rhineland's largest city is famous for its carnival, traditional pubs, bustling shopping centres and eau de Cologne. Dominating Cologne's skyline is the magnificent Gothic Dom Cathedral, which took 600 years to complete. A climb up the south tower offers superb views of the city and the Rhine. From the viewing platform you are also able to get an alternative view of the Wallraf-Richartx Museum considered to be one of Germany's leading art collections. Just a few hundred yards away is the lively Alter Markt, town hall and one of the best examples of the city's Romanesque churches, St Martins.
